Lineup Efficiency
What is Lineup Efficiency?
Lineup Efficiency measures what percentage of a manager's maximum possible points they actually scored each week. It is the ratio of actual starting lineup points to Optimal Lineup points — the best lineup the manager could have set from their rostered players.
Lineup Efficiency = Actual Points / Optimal Points
A manager who scored 110 points but could have scored 130 with perfect start/sit decisions had 84.6% lineup efficiency that week.
Why Lineup Efficiency matters
Fantasy football managers make two types of decisions: roster construction (draft, trades, waivers) and weekly lineup management (who to start and who to bench). Lineup Efficiency isolates the second skill.
A manager with great roster construction but poor lineup efficiency is leaving value on the bench every week. A manager with average rosters but 95%+ efficiency is squeezing every point out of what they have.
Interpreting Lineup Efficiency
| Efficiency | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| 95-100% | Near-perfect lineup management |
| 85-95% | Solid — occasional wrong call but generally sharp |
| 75-85% | Room for improvement — multiple misses per week |
| Below 75% | Significant value stranded on the bench regularly |
Season-average efficiency is the most meaningful measure. Any manager can have one bad week (a benched player goes off unexpectedly), but consistently low efficiency across a full season indicates a pattern.
