Best Transactions
What are Best Transactions?
Best Transactions ranks a manager's waiver wire and free agent moves by the value they generated. Each add and drop is scored using rest-of-season LAMAR — how much value the added player produced while on that manager's roster, minus the value lost from the player who was dropped.
Why transaction scoring matters
The waiver wire is the great equalizer in fantasy football. A manager who drafted poorly but makes sharp in-season moves can recover. A manager who drafted well but ignores the wire will decline. Transaction scoring quantifies this by converting every add/drop into a measurable value impact.
How transactions are scored
Value Added
When a manager adds a player from waivers or free agency, the system tracks that player's LAMAR for every remaining week of the season while they are on that manager's roster. This is the managed rest-of-season LAMAR — it only counts the weeks the manager actually had the player, not what happened before or after.
Value Lost
When a player is dropped, the system calculates their total rest-of-season LAMAR regardless of who picks them up. This represents the production the manager gave up by releasing that player.
Net Transaction Value
Net Value = LAMAR of Player Added (while managed) - LAMAR of Player Dropped (rest of season)
A positive net value means the add/drop improved the roster. A negative net value means the manager would have been better off standing pat.
Time window
Value is measured from the transaction week through the end of the regular season (typically Week 18). Only games after the transaction count toward the added player's managed value.
Season and career rankings
| Metric | Definition |
|---|---|
| Total Net LAMAR | Sum of net value from all add/drop transactions in a season |
| Best Transaction | Single add/drop with the highest net LAMAR |
| Worst Transaction | Single add/drop with the lowest (most negative) net LAMAR |
| Transaction Volume | Number of add/drop moves made |
Career transaction rankings aggregate across all seasons, showing which managers have historically been the best (or worst) at working the waiver wire.
What makes a great transaction
The best transactions combine two things:
- Adding a player who produces significant LAMAR — picking up a breakout player before the rest of the league notices
- Dropping a player with low remaining value — minimizing what you give up
Picking up a backup running back the week before the starter gets injured, then riding that player to 100+ LAMAR over the rest of the season, is the kind of move that shows up as an elite transaction.
Cross-season tracking
Transaction scoring is tracked across all seasons in your league's history. Career transaction rankings show which managers have consistently found value on the waiver wire year after year — and which ones have been burning through roster moves with nothing to show for it.
